Nyra Simon- Founder of Pirate Medz 215
Born and raised in Philadelphia, Nyra’s journey into holistic healing began in 2014 when she was diagnosed with a chronic illness related to immune deficiency. Initially, she followed conventional medical treatments, but by 2016, the side effects of medication prompted her to explore alternative methods of healing. It was during this time that Nyra connected with a brother from Nigeria, who introduced her to the powerful benefits of black seed oil. She began using it as a part of her treatment and saw remarkable improvements, inspiring her to share her newfound knowledge with her community.
As she delved deeper into the world of natural remedies, Nyra realized that black seed oil could aid in the treatment of various ailments, including asthma, inflammation, gout, and other immune-related conditions. Her commitment to holistic health blossomed, and during the pandemic, she turned to TikTok, using the platform to educate others on black seed, honey, and additional herbs she discovered along her healing journey.
Nyra became known for her straightforward, results-driven approach, and her efforts to demystify natural healing. She even began teaching people how to read their own blood tests, empowering them with the knowledge of vital markers such as lymphocytes, leukocytes, and hemoglobin. Her passion to educate stemmed from personal experience, having navigated the confusing medical system herself, especially in underrepresented communities where she saw people being overtreated and misinformed.
In her professional journey, Nyra embraced the healthcare field, completing a welfare-to-work program at Temple University and earning her certification as a nationally registered administrative health assistant. She gained valuable insights while working for Aetna Life, particularly in the areas of insurance fraud and the complex relationships between politicians and pharmaceutical companies.
In 2019, Nyra officially founded Pirate Medz, a minority-owned business specializing in honey and tea blends designed to boost the immune system. Despite facing censorship on social media and other platforms, Pirate Medz thrived, with Nyra’s mission to continue sharing her holistic knowledge with the world.
Her goal is to educate communities, especially the underserved, on the importance of natural healing and self-advocacy in healthcare. Her mantra, “Basic Instructions Before Eating,” which she coined in March 2020, serves as a guiding principle in her teachings.
Nyra continues to grow Pirate Medz 215 and remains dedicated to the mission of empowering individuals with holistic tools for better health. Through prayer, support, and a relentless passion for education, Nyra is determined to leave a lasting impact on those she serves.
